Visnick_Patricia_4x5.jpgEvery child has the ability to learn and succeed. At Cardinal Maida Academy, we strive to provide a well balanced, excellent educational
and spiritual curriculum to enhance all children's academic awareness and growth. Through our strong spiritual foundation, our students learn to include God and Jesus in their everyday lives and decisions. In addition to our curriculum,  we guide students to develop and maintain positive social, emotional, and physical growths as well. We prepare students for their future endeavors morally, spiritually and academically in a highly motivated atmosphere. We challenge the students to maximize and attain their individual potentials, goals and dreams.

 Mrs. Schmidt - Fifth/Sixth Grade

I am a 2006 Graduate of Thiel College in Greenville, PA. While at Thiel, I earned my Bachelor's degrees in both Elementary Education and Psychology. Upon graduation I moved to Florida where I worked for a tutoring company for 1 year before moving on to teach a combined 11th/12th grade/ Special education class at the local private Christian school. The military then moved my family to North Carolina where I taught Kindergarten for 4 years at one of the county elementary schools. After the death of my husband, I moved back to this area and took a break from teaching. The past 2 years I've enjoyed being a substitute and PTG volunteer here at CMA, but now I look forward to getting back into teaching and having my own class. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my son Aiden and our dogs at home.

 Mrs. Strapac - Art/Drama

 Mrs. Forys - Speech

I worked as a speech and language pathologist for the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit for 36 years and retired in 2010. During that time with the IU, I supervised over 25 clinical interns for several state universities and was assigned to three different school districts, the most recent being Franklin Regional. I graduated with a master's in education from California University of Pennsylvania and a certification in speech and hearing handicapped. My state license and ASHA clinical competency certificate are in speech and language pathology.

 Mrs. Horrell - Fourth Grade

I graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in elementary education. I have had long term substitute positions at Leechburg Elementary and Armstrong school districts upon graduation. I have taught fourth grade at Cardinal Maida Academy since 2007. I feel that I am extremely blessed to be working at a catholic school and be able to talk about Jesus and His teachings throughout the day.

 Mrs. Leonard - Kindergarten

As the kindergarten teacher, I enjoy teaching because it is always something different every day. I graduated from Slippery Rock University in 1987 with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education.  I have an emphasis in early childhood.

Mrs. Kloc - Spanish/ Physical Education

 Miss Paullet - First Grade

I was a student at Cardinal Maida Academy  from kindergarten to sixth grade, and can say that the education I received along with the experiences that I had while attending the school are invaluable.
I have just recently graduated from Saint Vincent College with my B.S. in Early Childhood Education and a minor in Disabilities Studies.
I have been fortunate to have had numerous teaching experiences throughout my career. I have volunteered as the music teacher at Saint James' Vacation Bible School for over ten years, and have also designed and taught lessons across a number of grade and ability levels within several different school districts.

 Mrs. Adams - Second Grade

Teaching at Cardinal Maida Academy is like coming home to me. I am a Vandergrift native and I also attended the school (then known as St. Gertrude’s) during my elementary years. I have been teaching within the Diocese of Greensburg since 1992, most recently at Holy Trinity School in Ligonier. I have a B.A. in Communication from Slippery Rock University, teaching certification from Seton Hill University and a Masters degree in Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a focus on literacy. I am certified as a reading specialist. The greatest joy for me as a teacher is inspiring a love of learning within my students. What I love so much about teaching within a Catholic school is the ability to guide the students to be strong in their faith and to serve as Jesus did.

 Mrs. Wilson - Third Grade

As the third grade teacher here since 2008, I really enjoy seeing the excitement in each student as they learn new things. In the past, I have previously worked as a substitute in the local public school districts, as well as Cardinal Maida Academy and Mary Queen of Apostles School, New Kensington. I am a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, with a bachelor's degree in elementary education and have attended Seton Hill University, where I earned my master's degree in inclusive education, as well as certification in special education.
