 Principal's Message

Our goal at Cardinal Maida Academy is to give students an excellent educational foundation that helps them grow intellectually, morally and spiritually.  We challenge our students to stretch their minds and hearts, form enduring friendships, experience an abundance of happiness and, most of all, deepen their personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

I also enjoy teaching because it affords me the opportunity to touch the future.  I realize how fortunate I am to see young people challenge themselves to reach goals and use their talents to glorify God.  I believe that teaching is truly a vocation, not a career.

Sincerely,
Mr. Mark Talarico
Principal/Sixth Grade Teacher

 Miss D'Angelo - Fifth Grade

After graduating from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, I started my teaching career in North Carolina in 1997, where I taught fifth grade for three years. I have been the fifth grade teacher at CMA since 2003. My favorite part about being a teacher is seeing the amazement in a student's eyes when they are learning something new. It is so nice to see the student apply what they have learned in the classroom to their world. I teach science for grades four through six. It is my favorite subject to teach. The students are not only given many opportunities to use inquiry, but they really get to analyze how things work through hands-on activities.

 Mrs. Forys - Speech

I worked as a speech and language pathologist for the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit for 36 years and retired in 2010. During that time with the IU, I supervised over 25 clinical interns for several state universities and was assigned to three different school districts, the most recent being Franklin Regional. I graduated with a master's in education from California University of Pennsylvania and a certification in speech and hearing handicapped. My state license and ASHA clinical competency certificate are in speech and language pathology.

 Mrs. Horrell - Fourth Grade

I graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in elementary education. I have had long term substitute positions at Leechburg Elementary and Armstrong school districts upon graduation. I have taught fourth grade at Cardinal Maida Academy since 2007. I feel that I am extremely blessed to be working at a catholic school and be able to talk about Jesus and His teachings throughout the day.

 Mrs. Leonard - Kindergarten

As the kindergarten teacher, I enjoy teaching because it is always something different every day. I graduated from Slippery Rock University in 1987 with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education.  I have an emphasis in early childhood.

 Mrs. Majeran - Second Grade

I am the second grade teacher at Cardinal Maida Academy.  I am a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University with a degree in elementary education. After graduation I worked for the Burrell School District while attaining my permanent certification. I began teaching at Cardinal Maida Academy when my children were ready to attend school and at that time the school was called St. Gertrude School. I feel very blessed to be teaching in such a wonderful school and I thank God for all that I have in my life.

 Mrs. Wilson - Third Grade

As the third grade teacher here since 2008, I really enjoy seeing the excitement in each student as they learn new things. In the past, I have previously worked as a substitute in the local public school districts, as well as Cardinal Maida Academy and Mary Queen of Apostles School, New Kensington. I am a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, with a bachelor's degree in elementary education and have attended Seton Hill University, where I earned my master's degree in inclusive education, as well as certification in special education.
